We would like to introduce one of Tanque Verde Ranch’s favorite and long-time bartenders, Desiree Bennin. She has been with the ranch since May of 2013. As a native Tucsonan, she embraces the great adventures and beauty that southern Arizona offers, and finds that The Dog House Saloon and Tanque Verde Ranch contribute to her love and passion for the desert and her home state.
Desiree’s roommate and a good friend worked as the banquet manager at the ranch and one night introduced Desiree to Brenna, Bob Cote’s daughter. Brenna offered her a serving position, and Desiree jumped on the opportunity. The banquet server position quickly turned into being hired as a full-time bartender at The Dog House Saloon.
The atmosphere of The Dog House Saloon goes hand in hand with Desiree’s heritage, experience, and welcoming personality. With a bright smile – accompanied by red lipstick and eyes outlined by black, cat-eye framed glasses, you are sure to remember your new favorite bartender! When guests enter the Saloon, they are getting a rustic, western experience that takes you back in time. With a patio that overlooks the Rincon Mountains and Saguaro National Forest, its the perfect place to sip on a drink, have some bites, and relax after a long day of adventurous horseback, hiking, and biking activities. And chat with Desiree, of course.
Desiree loves the excitement and enthusiasm new and recurring guests have when they enter the saloon. Sharing their stories with her lights up her evenings. “Guests always talk about all the wildlife they see; deer, ringtail cats, bobcats, raccoons, javelina, Gila monsters, and even the occasional rattlesnakes around the vast property.”
With growth over the last couple years, The Dog House Saloon has been seeing more locals, and returning guests, especially now that the saloon offers their delicious Dog House bites. Desiree continues to grow friendships and remember customers on a first-name basis. Customers tend to remember Desiree as well and share great reviews of their service:
“Desiree is amazing and so kind. You’ll love her!
If you haven’t been in yet be sure to stop by and say hello….”
“Bartender, Desiree, was absolutely fabulous! She makes great margaritas and stirs up awesome conversations. It was a pleasure to be around her….”
“Desiree makes every holiday at The Dog House Saloon…”
She explains that one of her favorite parts of her job is the beauty of the area because it is stunning. And of course, the guests and customers she gets to serve.
“I absolutely love The Dog House Saloon! I have the opportunity to get to know the guests during their stay. The opportunity to make so many friends from all over the world and the guests of Tanque Verde Ranch is truly what makes it a special place.” Desiree explained. Her favorite memories of the Saloon usually consist of Legacy Guests doing Karaoke during the holidays. She also loves peaking in on the wedding ceremonies that take place. They are all so pretty!
She also continued to say, “However, some guests are like family and to me that tops the list.”
Desiree enjoys spending her free time with her best friend. Believe it or not, The Dog House is not the only ‘dog’ she loves. Deja, a loving Blue-Nose Pitbull, is Desiree’s hiking companion. Together, they are always seeking adventures, especially those atop Mt. Lemmon. She also enjoys venturing out into the ranch and their activities. She has been fishing, hiking, and occasionally joins in on the delicious Cowboy Cookout at the Cottonwoods. However, her favorite activity is the Breakfast Ride, aside from yoga on the front lawn. Desiree looks forward to trying the Sunset Ride one day as she always hears about how wonderful it is when riders come in after they have dismounted their horses. Desiree even has her favorite horses at the ranch! “Derringer – he’s feisty. I love his spunk,” she said. “And Stretch – also a favorite of mine. He’s a big boy, so sweet and gentle.”
Desiree enjoys making all sorts of cocktails, but the best part is seeing guests reactions after tasting a delicious, signature Prickly Pear Margarita. There is a full bar in the Saloon and something for everyone. Whether it be a local craft beer from one of the city’s breweries or a cocktail made with simple syrups, fresh lime, lemon, and fruits. With these fresh ingredients and Desiree’s craftiness–you are in for one delicious drink that will only make you come back for more in the future.
“Come see me in The Dog House Saloon, and I’ll make you the best Prickly Pear Margarita you’ve ever had. 😀” -Desiree
