Artistic Ranch Keepsake Crafting

Discover your hidden artistic talents through our rejuvenating roster of hands-on workshops. From copper tooling and silver jewelry crafting to "growing" your own bismuth crystal sculptures, pine needle casting, pewter sculpting, and leather belt-making...each session allows you to create treasured ranch souvenirs while experiencing the sculptural arts in an entirely new way.
Copper Tooling

Copper Tooling

Solid copper sheets become your creative canvas through the ancient metalworking technique of repousse. Skilled instructors guide you in selecting a design, then teach the art of embossing using specialized tools. Work the metal from both sides, skillfully raising intricate low-relief artistry. Finish by applying a patina of your choice before framing.
Pine Needle Casting

Pine Needle Casting

Connect with nature's inspiration through this primal silver casting ritual. Pure molten silver streams over a "haystack" bundle of arranged pine needles. As the metal cools, the needles' patterns emerge. An instructor will help you soldersmithing finishes like bails and polishing to transform your one-of-a-kind cast into wearable or displayable art.
Pewter Sculpture Activity

Pewter Sculpture Activity

Sculpt your own pewter treasures as you gain insights into metals and the sculpting process. Learn about alloys and the lead-free pewter used before molding your designs - a columbine flower and two hummingbirds (or a butterfly). The grand finale? You'll directly pour the molten pewter to cast your creations.
Silversmithing

Silversmithing

Discover the nuances of this distinguished tradition from an instructor with over 40 years' experience. Explore metals like sterling silver - from mining to alloy properties. Then design and craft your own custom sterling pendant from start to finish, embellishing it with a vibrant gemstone of your choice before soldering and polishing.
Silver Ring Making

Silver Ring Making

Immerse yourself in the soldering practices of expert silversmiths as you craft not one, but two custom sterling silver rings in this intensive hands-on workshop. Learn crucial sizing and joining techniques as you create personalized rings featuring decorative castings or gemstone accents. Take home unique wearable mementos!
Leather Belt Making

Leather Belt Making

Channel your inner artisan leatherworker in this rustic workshop celebrating the American Southwest's ranching traditions. You'll learn utilitarian belt stitching and decorative stamping methods from our master leathersmiths before crafting your very own topgrain leather belt accented with antiqued hardware and personalized branding motifs.
Pearl and Silver Pendant Class at Tanque Verde Ranch

Find a Pearl, Make a Silver Pendant

Yes, you will find a pearl inside a salt water oyster. You will learn how to open the oyster and find the cultured pearl that has grown inside as the oyster grew. You will learn how cultured pearls are formed. Cultured pearls can come in many different colors. We have many samples you may choose from, or design your own. You will make your design first with copper wire for practice. Then you will make it out of Sterling Silver wire. We will solder your Silver creation together for you. We will teach you how we drill the pearl half way through with a diamond drill. After we polish your pendant, we will help you glue your pearl on the post. We place it on a 20 inch Sterling Silver box chain for you to wear. As with all our classes we teach this workshop so that it is possible to do it at home with minimal tools and supplies. It's fun, educational and make a memory of a life time.

Drumming

Drums for Everyone

After you have a great meal, come relax, and have some fun drumming your cares away. You do not need to know how to play the drums. Don the Drum Circle leader can't, and he will explain why he can't! But, Greg, his son can, and we can teach anyone to join our drum circles. Hand drums, congo drums, bongo drums and some other percussion instruments will be divided among participants. Greg will teach you two, three or maybe even four simple drum patterns that children, beginners, everyone will learn quickly and in a fun way. Then Don will divide everyone into groups, and let the drums begin. He will be directing each group to play and there will be a birth of the beat (a Sandy Nelson album). You will hear a little of this 1960's great drummer. If you like, stop by the bar and bring a bottle of wine, or drink if you wish. We guarantee that you will end the evening and go to bed with a smile.
