The Legacy of Tanque Verde Ranch
Tanque Verde Ranch is the heart of its parent company, Cote Hospitality. Located just outside Tucson, Arizona, the Ranch is not simply a destination, it is a place shaped by centuries of history, stewardship, and human connection. Few properties in the American Southwest can claim a story as deep or as enduring.
Tanque Verde Ranch is a living legacy.
From Early Settlement to Ranching Roots
Long before Tanque Verde Ranch became a guest ranch, the land was home to the Pima people, whose ancestral territories extended along the Gila and Salt Rivers in present-day Arizona and into Sonora, Mexico. Their understanding of agriculture, irrigation, and desert life established a lasting relationship between people and place—one rooted in respect for the land.
In the late 1600s, Spanish explorers arrived, bringing new agricultural practices and livestock that further shaped the region. By the early 1800s, American settlers followed, and ranching emerged as a defining way of life in the Sonoran Desert. These early chapters reflect both the opportunity and the hardship of frontier life in the Southwest.
In 1868, Don Emilio Carrillo established ranching operations on the land that would become Tanque Verde Ranch. The decades that followed were marked by challenge, transition, and resilience—realities common to the era. Ownership later passed to Jim Converse in the 1920s, and in 1957 the Ranch entered a new chapter under the stewardship of Brownie Cote.
In 1969, Bob Cote assumed leadership of the Ranch, guiding it forward with a long-term view rooted in hospitality, tradition, and care for the guest experience. His wife, Rita Cote, remains a familiar and welcoming presence on property today, a living link between the Ranch's past and present.
The Modern Era: History, Elevated
Today, Tanque Verde Ranch is recognized as one of Tucson's premier resort destinations. The property blends historic character with thoughtful modern amenities, offering salas and casitas that frame sweeping desert and mountain views.
Guests come for many reasons—horseback riding, hiking, wellness programming, or simply the desire to slow down and reconnect. Some seek adventure; others seek restoration. Tanque Verde Ranch provides space for both.
Equally important is the Ranch's commitment to preserving the Sonoran Desert. Sustainability and environmental stewardship are not trends here; they are responsibilities. Protecting the land ensures that future generations may experience the same beauty that has defined this place for centuries.

Tanque Verde Ranch's continued success is driven by its people. The associates who serve here bring the Ranch's history to life every day through genuine hospitality, consistency, and care.
