Horseback riding is one of the most sought-after and popular activities our guests enjoy. We offer a variety of horseback riding activities tailored to any ability level. Two of our most popular horseback riding adventures are the sunrise and sunset rides.

You may be wondering, which ride is right for me? Both are very similar in nature but each one provides a distinct experience due to the time of day in which they are conducted. Read more to get a feel for each one, and above all, make sure to try at least one of them during your next stay here!

Sunrise Ride

Guests rave about our sunset rides, but many of our guests don't realize we also offer sunrise rides as well. A sunrise ride is another wonderful way to take in the desert by horseback that provides a complementary experience to our sunset ride. Whether you are more of a "morning person" or it just works better in your vacation schedule, the sunrise ride is a great activity to try! Below are a few reasons why.

Beat the Heat

The early morning hours are the coolest part of the day in the hot and dry climate in Arizona. With summertime high temperatures peaking as high as 120 degrees, mornings are much cooler and more comfortable than the late afternoon or evening. Your horse will also appreciate the cooler temperatures!

Watch the Sunrise

Is there anything better than watching a sunrise to start the day? Watch as the morning light paints the sky with beautiful hues of red, orange, pink, and yellow while the desert comes to life.

Take in the Scenery

The Sonoran Desert is beautiful any time of day, but there is something so peaceful about it at first light. You'll ride past towering saguaro cacti as you see the sun start to rise over the mountainous terrain you are traversing. You might even see wildlife such as javelina, coyotes, jackrabbit, or mule deer out and about in the early morning hours. Make sure to take a few moments to admire the desert flora and fauna, as well as the gorgeous views surrounding you.

You'll be Refreshed (So Will Your Horse)

In the morning you'll be refreshed after a peaceful night's sleep in our accommodations, ready to start your horseback adventure. Even if you don't consider yourself a morning person, that's nothing a cup of coffee can't solve! Your horse will be physically and mentally fresh in the morning as well. Typically, they'll have longer attention spans and greater focus too.

Seize the Day

By rising early, you'll make the most out of your vacation and have time to schedule as many adventures or relaxation time as you'd like the rest of the day. Whether you prefer to spend your day at the pool, go for a hike or bike ride, or sip a cocktail at the Dog House- you can do it all!

Set your alarm, grab a cup of coffee, and go out for a morning ride! You won't regret it.

Sunset Ride

The sunset ride is one of the most talked-about activities at the Ranch- for good reason! As one happy guest said, "Our first horseback ride was the Sunset Ride. The views were stunning!" Guests that partake in the sunset ride can expect to see stunning sunsets over the endless desert sky while enjoying a ride on beautiful mountain trails. Here are some reasons why guests enjoy the sunset ride.

Take in the Sunset

A Sonoran Desert sunset is one of the most breathtaking sunsets you can view. The colors in the sky, giant saguaros, and Rincon mountains combine to create such a magical atmosphere at sunset. You'll see picturesque views that you will remember for a lifetime.

End the Day on a High Note

A sunset ride is the best way to cap off a fun-filled day of adventure at the Ranch. You'll surely sleep well after an evening of horseback riding and breathing plenty of fresh desert air outdoors.

Admire the Nature Around You

Admire the wildflowers bathed in the evening light and the tall cacti casting long shadows as you navigate the mountain trails. Wildlife becomes very active at night to avoid the hot daytime temperatures in the Sonoran Desert, so you may have the opportunity to see a large variety of animals as they emerge for the evening.

After your ride is over, stay up late and look up at the sky. Tucson has been designated as a dark-sky sanctuary, making it one of the best places to stargaze in the world. You'll see the stars here like you've never seen them before.

Which One Is Better?

The sunrise and sunset rides are two of the best activities we offer. So, which riding adventure is right for you? That's for you to decide depending on your schedule and desired vacation experience.

Either way, we do know you will have the time of your life participating in either one. We encourage you to experience both if your schedule allows, but if you can only fit one ride in, either ride is a great way to go!

The sunrise and sunset rides are both $85/person. Learn more about our sunrise and sunset rides and all of our other adventures here, and while you're at it, book your next stay. We can't wait to see you here!
